Summer is here. (or almost here for some).

While there can be plenty to do in the summer ranging from short-term missions and sleeping in until noon, it is my recommendation and prayer that everyone would take some time to pick up a book this summer and read. Discerning reader has just published some tips on how to pick books and read them. (Al Mohler has some tips on reading as well).

If any book at all, I sincerely pray that you would immerse yourself in the bible. Take this summer as opportunity to refresh and remind yourself of God’s perfect word.

Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

-Hebrews 4:11,12 (ESV)

Stephen Altrogge from The Blazing Center has written some great tips of simple bible reading.

With that said, here is my reading list for this summer:

  • Culture Shift: Engaging Current Issues with Timeless Truth (Today’s Critical Concerns) by R. Albert Mohler
  • In My Place Condemned He Stood: Celebrating the Glory of the Atonement by J.I. Packer and Mark Dever
  • The Discipline of Spiritual Discernment by Tim Challies
  • The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis
